Old Ale House. Opened in 1854, it’s one of the oldest businesses in New York, and was formally a Guy’s Club, but now houses one of the best places in town to grab a delicious brew and a tasty bite.

Being such a historic locale, the walls are lined with pictures of famous figures, famous events and other piece of historical paraphernalia. Walking into the place in like walking into old New York, which New York apartment residents will find a thrilling adventure. With sawdust on the floor, a crowded bar, and plenty of energetic, rowdy customers, McSorley’s is everything a good pub should be, right down to the delicious brews. Of course, they only serve a couple of kinds of beer at McSorley’s, all brewed by the pub itself, though they manufacture it around the country. When you sit down, they’ll ask, "Light or Dark?" And there you go!

For those looking for the latest in hip, trendy bar stylings, they would be advised to go elsewhere. From the floors, to the bars, to the patrons, to the bartenders, everything screams old school at this popular drinking spot. The food selection is not huge at this pub, and instead of a menu you always must check the outside chalkboard for the days selections, but they also cook up the items fresh, and always delicious. They mostly make delicious sandwiches, burgers and soups, but there are times when you can find just about anything on the menu. Special holidays are a great time to come in, but prepare for the crowd, because even on weekends the lines can get around the block to get in. Once you’re in the doors, and feel the warmth, flavor and energy of the place, you’ll find it was well worth the wait.
